Excavation Volume Calculator
Calculate excavation volume, loose spoil and estimated truck loads for a rectangular dig-out.
Example inputs are editable. Use your project values. Enter 0 where no optional allowance is intended; blank fields pause the calculation.
Your inputs
Your results
- Bank volume
- 188.16 m³
- Loose volume (spoil)
- 235.2 m³
- Estimated truck loads
- 27
These free results do not automatically save or sync to a Fieldlink job.
How it works
- Bank volume = L × W × average depth
- Loose volume = bank × (1 + bulking %)
- Truck loads = loose ÷ truck capacity (rounded up)
- Tonnes = bank volume × density
Worked example
42 m × 3.2 m × 1.4 m = 188.16 m³ bank × 1.25 bulking = 235.2 m³ loose ÷ 9 m³ trucks = 27 loads
Assumptions and practical notes
Bulking varies by material — clays commonly ~25–30 %, granular less. Batters and over-dig aren't included; allow for them in your average depth/width.
