Pipe Bedding Calculator
Bedding and surround aggregate for a pipe run — m³ and tonnes at the density you enter.
Example inputs are editable. Use your project values. Enter 0 where no optional allowance is intended; blank fields pause the calculation.
Your inputs
Your results
- Bedding
- 6.48 m³
- Pipe surround (less pipe displacement)
- 16.05 m³
- Total aggregate
- 22.53 m³
- Estimated tonnes (no allowance)
- 33.79 t
These free results do not automatically save or sync to a Fieldlink job.
How it works
- Bedding = L × W × bedding depth
- Surround = L × W × (OD + surround) − pipe displacement
- Pipe displacement = π × (OD/2)² × L
- Tonnes = total m³ × density
Worked example
48 m × 0.9 m trench, 300 OD, 150 bedding + 150 surround Bedding 6.48 m³ + surround 16.05 m³ = 22.53 m³ → 33.8 t @ 1.5 t/m³
Assumptions and practical notes
Zero cover still includes aggregate beside the pipe up to its crown; choose Bedding only to exclude that zone. Use a density matching the measured volume basis and specified material. Confirm the conversion with your supplier; loose delivered volume and compacted installed volume are not interchangeable.
